The flight of Gujarat continuously soaring under the able leadership of the Chief Minister Narendra Modi whose reaction on the thumping victory was to soberly remind that People have not just given us power, but have also handed over the responsibility. And he had carried his responsibilities well over the past is evident in the peoples mandate. There are generally two categories of challenges that need to be overcome in realizing the potential of any region. The first category of impediments originates from nature and the challenges which are required to be overcome range from unequal distribution of natural resources to natural calamities like earthquakes and droughts.
The second category of impediments is human made and the challenges to be overcome range from poor quality of leadership and corrupt administration to unevenly developed demographic distribution. However, overcoming the first category of impediments through judicious management of natural resources is impossible to achieve to any extent unless the second category of challenges are successfully overcome and the quality leadership supported by the accountable administration emerge in the State.
The Gujarat Government has been able to address the challenges posed by nature. It proves that the Government has been able to overcome the second category of challenges to a large extent.
There are many who argue that Gujarat would have developed anyway whether attended or unattended. And to support their argument they indicate the success of individual Gujaratis, and especially the success attained by the Gujarati diaspora overseas. They cite the enterprising and indomitable nature of Gujarati people, and feel that the current development of Gujarat is inevitable given the nature of its people.
Such arguers fail to realize that the successful Gujaratis overseas are descendants of first generations who feel that the infrastructure presently available in their homeland was insufficient in the past to support the realization of their individual potentials. Indomitable and enterprising people left their region when the infrastructure was averse to the fulfillment of the dreams and aspirations, and return to the same region when the infrastructure has been developed sufficiently to support them. As the State Government is very keen to extend support to NRIs, NRIs are more enthused to buy homes in Gujarat and invest in the realty sector. This is an ample evidence that the infrastructural growth of the State is on the right track and has become sufficient to fulfill the requirements of enterprising Gujaratis.
